Forum 2010 Invitation

We have a great pleasure to invite you to Lower Silesian Political and Economic Forum that will take place 28th – 30th October 2010 in Krzyżowa near Wrocław in Poland. The main topic of this year's Forum is:

“Technique and technology - development impulses”
(click here to get a draft of agenda)

This year we celebrate 100 years anniversary of higher technical education in Lower Silesia. One should pay attention to the fact that technique and technology gives development impulses for regional and European development. We want to recall the role of technique and technology for Western Civilization in recent years.

Lower Silesian Political and Economic Forum has been taking place since 1999 in fthe ormer estate of family von Moltke (now Stiftung "Kreisau" Centre). Every year we host over 800 guests – representatives of Lower Silesian self-government, Polish and European politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists and journalists.

Our debates are still influenced by worldwide economic crisis, therefore we will also discuss economic issues. It seems that we need to underline technique and technology and rethink modern ideas that influence on our present economic situation.

At the first Day of Forum (October 28th, Thursday) we will focuns attention on the role of technique and technology to civilization and cultural development of Europe.  The addresses of Patrons and Guests of Forum will open Inaugural Session at which we hope to discuss how to use our technological potential in regional and European foresight.

During the second day of Forum (October 29th, Friday) we will continue discussion about economic condition of Western Civilization and European regions. Like in past years the discussion will concern economy, energetic and most actual business issues. Very important part of that day is devoted to the mutual Polish-German-Cech relations (presentation of Polish-German Economic Award) and promotion of best Lower Silesian entrepreneurs (presentation of Lower Silesian Economic Award).

The third Day of Forum (October 30th, Saturday) concerns regional development and self-government. We will also try to sum up 20 years of self-government (since administration reform after communist breakdown in 1990). We are interested to investigate if Polish local and national system enhances development or stops it.

Our discussions will be a continuation of debates that took place in last meetings in Krzyżowa. In 2009 Forum participants accepted declaration “Quo Vadis Europa?”  that calls for discussion over European future with civil groups and authorities. We have made the first step – in June 2010 we hosted over 30 authorities in Wrocław. During the International Conference Europa Quo Vadis we were trying to find new ways to formulate questions related to the past and to the future of Europe. It is our intention to continue this search during the following Forum.

Best regards
